It's all in A Month of Days
The routine I have to follow most is driving 15.2 miles to work, plus the trip back home, following the same path down the highway 19 times this month. Once I’m at work at 700 Maryville off Hwy 64 {40}. I sit at a location where I look out over an overflow pond from the highway and building complex. It’s a great spot looking out on the pond where many animals can be seen. There are mallard ducks & 4 ducklings, blue & white herons, a lot of geese and 5 goslings. There are several cardinals flying about and we see 3 deer that will wonder through from time to time. Squirrels run back & forth over the walking foot bridge. The “pond” houses
several snapping turtles that you spot sunning themselves. But as of today the best sighting from my work desk is 2 river otters playing around in the water one day of April. April Showers made a showing 11 days out of 30. This makes the bottom of our back yard a muddy mess, it’s a low spot and the water runs though like a small creek. This can make for 2 very muddy dogs. Usually I have to go to the grocery (Schnucks) store every week, this month I made 5 grocery pickups. Another part of this month was going to the dentist twice and a rather high 6 doctor trips, it seems it was the year for several yearly checkups.

This year, 2013, the Great Horned Owl stole the Red-tail Hawks nest to lay her eggs. Jim thought the Spring was too cold, that the eggs were frozen, and she was not going to hatch any babies. We checked through binoculars several times a day and finally we saw not one but two babies. We watched them everyday until the leaves grew too large for us to see. We hear them hoot and
we try to keep an eye out for them.
