AYM/3 "Kick-Off"

I started "A Year of Memories" this week with a Christmas party at The Scrap Room in Mt. Juliet. I met with Rebecca and Kathy on Tuesday night---they will be joining us by taking the workshop as a "correspondence course."

On Wednesday, I met the rest of the group (minus 2---who couldn't make it)---there are 19 in this group. It's going to be a fun year.

Here are the recipes I promised:

Chicken Almond Cheese Ball
2-8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 lg. can Swansons chicken (there are 3 sizes---this is the largest one---like a large can of tuna)
1 pkg. Ranch dressing (dry mix)
1-6 oz. jar diced pimentos, drained

Mix all together. Form in to a ball (or 2 smaller balls) and roll in to sliced almonds. Wrap and chill.

Crab Roll-ups
1 can of crab, drained
1 can of diced green chills
8-oz. cream cheese, softened
garlic powder
flour tortillas

Mix all ingredients. Spread on flour tortillas and roll up. Chill an hour or two before slicing.

AYM---Guys

The topic for November was about the fall and what it means to you.
Jack's page was about football, Thanksgiving, pumpkin hunting and Christmas. He didn't do much in the way of journaling this month. I used a leaf punch to create the border.
Bruce's page is titled "Thanks for the Memoreis." The turkey on the left is actually one of those crepe paper fold out type 3D things that he saved after his mother died. Preserving it on his page was the perfect place for it. He journaled about going to his grandparent's house for Thanksgiving when he was a kid.

Pam's title for Hugh's page is "Things I look Fallward to." She wove baker's twine around brads to spell out the word "fall."
"Many Thanks, dad and mom" is the title that Nancy chose for Bill's page. He said that one of his favorite things that he loved about his parents was that they loved Nancy.
This is Jim's page from last month. Jeanne told stories related to the many masks that Jim has in his layout titled "Masked.

December's assignment is to tell the story of your favorite Christmas. We'll see what they do with that. Butch is already 2 months behind. We'll see if he does December....

AYM/2012

I'm getting ready to "roll-out" A Year of Memories/2012. I have 41 participants this year in 4 different groups---double from last year. As you all know, I am passionate about this.

A few years ago, we picked a book for our family book club called The Giver, by Lois Lowry. It’s about a time in the future when each and every man, woman and child has a particular purpose in their society---everything about their lives is decided by the “elders” The life-long assignments are given out at the age of 12. One of these characters holds the memories of the group. His title---The Giver---indicates his job of preparing the next child (the receiver) that will be given the memories for safekeeping. He “gives” the memories to him one at a time---starting with the happy ones. Then he gives the sad, lonely, tragic memories---it’s a pretty big burden because the child suffers the pain of each memory along the way. Not to be melodramatic here, but it is a really good book and worth the read.
My personal goal is to inspire you to tell your stories and to help you become The Giver of your memories.
Let the year begin!!

The Scrap Room Challenge Club

The challenge this month was to use a banner---so popular right now---with the color combination of grey, cream, and aqua with a hint of lime.
We were happy to welcome a new member (but an old friend from Greenbrier) Angie Holt. She is a true scrapbook artist as you can see above. She is a master at 3 dimensional pages.

My layout is titled: "in the Country"---about Grandpa and Grandma Zimmermann's house in Barnhart, MO. My cousin, Julie, sent me so many great pictures of the inside of the house---I'm thrilled to have them. No surprise that I would have a lot to say, so I created a pocket behind the picture of grandma Z to tuck the journaling.
Linda Stevens completed this extra layout from one that I designed for our day group last year after Christmas with pictures from our holiday party.
This is Linda's layout for the challenge. She has really done a good job with telling the story. My preaching is paying off!
Pam's layout is about Lauren and Chris' trip to Venice this past summer. She's left the lower right for journaling but I don't know who is doing that---her or Lauren.
Sandy Good did her layout about her grandson's swim meet. This challenge is good for her---we tease her about most of her layouts being "orange." She and her family are HUGE University of Tennessee fans.
Another swim meet layout---and low and behold, there's the orange!

Jan Seagraves is our card maker---and she makes some beautiful ones. She said that she had a good time with the banners and ended up making 3 cards. They are really involved---anyone would love to get one!
Jan has also started scrapbooking---but she doesn't look like a beginner. I snapped a couple of shots from her album. This was an older layout that she did a few months ago---but since it had a banner, I wanted to include it.
The challenge layout from Jan with banners on both pages. In the upper left, she has an old report card. Cool. I love using old stuff.
Kathy Means titled her layout: "Waitin' on a Man"---a take-off from the Brad Paisley song "Waitin' on a Woman." The theme is about their dog that anxiously waits for her husband. Very cute---and she told the story. Love that!
Lola Fields has a new "grand"nephew, Turner,  that she is baby-sitting. He is a cutie for sure. She assures us that she's not going to "quit" us---we hope not. She  used bead chain along the top of the banner. Also, she questioned her use of the flower on a page with a boy---but we all loved it. It in no way looks like a "girlie" page.
It is my turn to pick the topic and color combination. Of course, I will always pick something "quirky" for the topic. This month, I'm having everyone scrapbook their car. We use them every day and couldn't live without them. However each person wants to approach it---it's wide open. Every one has some sort of story to tell about their car sometime in their life. 50 years from now, people will be happy to see what we drove today compared to what they will be driving then.

And the color combination is just luscious! Turquoise, red, white and celery green. Can't wait to play with those colors.

Welcome!

I've decided to start a new blog that will be just for scrapbook layouts from all of my "clubs"---"A Year of Memories"---I have 4 groups going now and "The Scrap Room Challenge Club." I wanted a place that people could come for scrapbook inspiration without having to wade through all of my "family and friends" posts. I'll have links to both on each blog for those that would like to follow in both places.
